Is Puerto Morelos a great place to go in the off-season? Yes! While we move into Spring, a phenomenal high season in Puerto Morelos will start drawing to a close. Numerous media accounts suggest this high season was one of the busiest for Cancun and the Riviera Maya in general! And, if you were here, you undoubtedly would agree.
There’s a lot to be said for high season here. More activities, more frequent live music, and the general “buzz” and atmosphere in and around town. It, of course, comes with its own challenges. Long lines at immigration, waits at every restaurant in town, and more limited choice of availability for some of the more popular attractions. But, to most, it’s worth it, generally having come from the North, and providing a respite from snow and frigid temperatures.
So what about the off-season?
The weather stays quite nice into June, and then starts getting warmer and a bit more humid through the Summer. But, if you can handle the heat…come into the kitchen!!! Puerto Morelos a great place to go in the off-season
While it’s true that a few places close up shop for the off-season, most restaurants and shops remain open all year long. You’ll find an ample amount of promotions for lodging during this time, including our own villas and casitas at Las Casitas! And, tours continue to run, with less people, greater individualization, and fantastic prices! Lighthouse Tours operates year-round and is a great tour provider for the area!
Vibrant yet Tranquil
Those who live here year-round, or choose to come during the off-season, still find a vibrant little village, but with a more tranquil buzz. Puerto Morelos a great place to go in the off-season, and those that do help keep our local staff and businesses employed and operating to get them to the next high season! Imagine the benefit of having a table at any of your favorite restaurants, or a seat at your favorite bar whenever you want one.
If you stay in touch through crowd sourcing activities sites, like inpuertomorelos.com, you’ll be able to seek out live entertainment on many nights. And, if you like excursions, you can enjoy them in a bit more peace. Scuba diving pretty much at your leisure, even the scuba schools and lessons continue. Snorkel tours run year-round. And fishing continues to be good, with different varieties more prevalent in different months. Need more ideas? We have a lot of suggested activities!
Dealing with the Weather
All that’s well and good, you say, but what about the heat? Yes, it’s warmer, and let’s face it, you’re likely not trying to escape the cold, but many Puerto Morelos restaurants, both on the Port Side (Beach) and in the Colonia, have, in the past few years, created enclosed, air conditioned spaces. And, while Puerto Morelos has great little shops for crafts, gifts, and merchandise of all kinds, there are great air-conditioned shopping opportunities nearby in Cancun and Playa del Carmen! Since you’re also here for the sun, fun, and fantastic beaches, the Caribbean Sea is great for cooling off, as are your accommodations’ pools!
Looking to Buy?
Are you looking to take that “plunge” from renter to owner? We’d miss you as a potential guest, but would welcome you as a permanent new neighbor! We’re not realtors and don’t involve ourselves in that business, but my impression is that Puerto Morelos real estate is going strong, and continuing to grow!
Puerto Morelos a great place to go in the off-season to work with a Realtor and do property searches! Many rental properties (that are for sale) either don’t allow, or severely limit the ability to show the property during high season. But in the off-season, greater vacancy means more opportunity to see properties, better time and attention from realtors, and in some cases, an enhanced motivation to sell.
So, what’s there to do in Puerto Morelos during off-season? Generally, everything there is during high season, but with lower prices, better deals, greater access, and a more tranquil environment!
