Ahh… Spring Break is coming! That time of year when the Riviera Maya welcomes thousands of college spring breakers and associated major events! Don’t get me wrong. The Mexico tourism organizations love and welcome them and work hard to ensure a safe and fun environment. But college kids packed shoulder to shoulder on the beach not really your thing? Yes, Spring Break is Coming, but is there an alternative?
There is an alternative!
Puerto Morelos is a more quiet, quaint, fishing village that sits right in the middle between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Traditional spring breakers flock to Cancun and Playa del Carmen for the all-inclusive hotels, nightclubs and nightlife, and special events. Puerto Morelos generally receives families, couples, and groups of couples or friends who enjoy a quieter, more tranquil space, but still want the benefits of everything the Riviera Maya has to offer.
Accommodations
While there are a few very small hotels in the town, you won’t find any all-inclusive resorts until you hit the edge of Puerto Morelos. Most accommodations here are condos and villas (think AirBnB style) that provide you with privacy, flexibility, and generally, overall lower cost!
Las Casitas is in the center of it all! Directly beach front, one minute either direction to great beach clubs (Unico and My Paradise), a five-minute walk down the street to restaurants and bars, and 10 minutes to the town square. And all of the tours, attractions, and cultural destinations the Riviera Maya is known for are easily in reach! (Check out Lighthouse Tours for all of the options!)
Not into tours? You can sit on your terrace and watch the waves crash over the Meso-American Reef (the second largest barrier reef in the world) just a couple hundred yards offshore. Or, snorkel and swim in uncrowded waters. Sun on spacious and less populated beaches. Enjoy the beauty of this magical place, Puerto Morelos.
Relaxed Cancellation Policy!
At Las Casitas, we are adjusting our cancellation policies for our guests who are concerned about Covid-19 (Coronavirus) (See our related post). While, as of today, there are no suspected or confirmed cases anywhere in the Riviera Maya, if you book with us, and the Riviera Maya experiences a bona-fide Covid-19 issue (e.g. government travel restrictions or bans), we will provide a full refund (less any non-refundable fees if applicable, and one night’s stay to cover our preparation costs) for cancellations up to 48 hours prior to scheduled arrival.
So, come and enjoy this wonderful Spring Break alternative! You’ll be glad you did!
